The Story - As a private contract software developer, www.newzealandnz.co.nz was first introduced to Ben when we contacted Christchurch Company, Brush Technology, looking for a new 'programmer'.
Having graduated from Canterbury University with a Bachelor of Engineering (BE) in electrical and computer engineering (with first class honours), Ben has many years programming and software development experience and as a programmer of embedded firmware and web applications, Ben is able to work well in C/C++, Python/JavaScript/PHP/SQL, HTML/CSS, Forth and various assembly languages.
Some of his 'handy talents' include...
-
Writing software to talk to GPRS or CDMA modems for telemetry and SMS.
- Implementing embedded firmware using 16 and 32-bit microcontrollers (for digital media applications, I/O sensing and control, etc.).
- Programming for Windows desktop and communications software.
- Designing good looking Websites that are easy to use and navigate, including simple static sites and complex dynamic sites with live data and database back-ends.
- Setting up and maintaining web servers and related technology under Linux and Windows.
Along with a zestful talent for programming, web development and electronics, Ben
manages to balance his hectic work schedule with hobby programming and other
interests, including playing the piano, sports and youth
leadership.
